"Valentine's Day" LA Premiere

Wow! These gals really got dressed up! Let's judge them!

Anne Hathaway in Marchesa

It is a gorgeous dress and the colors look amazing on her, but she needed an extra 2 inches on the hem.

Garcelle Beauvais in Versace fall 2008

We don't exactly love the dress, but she's rocking the hell out of it, moreso than the model shot. Love the shoes, love the hair.

Demi Moore in Chanel Spring 2009 Couture

Yes, we know. She paid good money for that face and body, but we can't deny she looks fantastic. She favors white often because she's smart and she knows it photographs well against her skin.

Emma Roberts in Jenny Packham Spring 2010

Adorable. The quintessential ingenue dress. Hair's cute too.

Jennifer Garner in Valentino Pre-Fall 2010

We don't love it. It's kind of severe for her and we have to repeat something Georgina Chapman said on the last episode of Project Runway: your eye doesn't know where to go.

Jessica Alba in Proenza Schouler Spring 2010

These might be the best red carpet pictures we've ever seen of her. Those colors look amazing on her and we kind of love the hair. The shoes are way too DTM, though.

Jessica Biel in Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2010

The prom queen after the car accident. If you stand in front of a mirror in a darkened room and repeat "I do believe in Jessica Biel" three times, she'll come and steal your soul. So don't do it!

Julia Roberts in Christian Dior Resort 2010

It's an okay dress, but it's a little matronly. And when you're starring in a romantic comedy with a bunch of actresses 10 to 15 years younger than you, that's a really bad idea.

Shirley, on the other hand, will never do wrong in our eyes. Luv huh.

Demi Moore for W Magazine

So...Demi Moore. We have opinions.

W Magazine December 2009

Some tidbits:

“The frustrating part is that the type of roles I’d be interested in are not really coming to me. I hate to say it’s a function of my age—but yes, I think in some ways it is. The majority of [female] roles are geared between 25 and 35.”

“I’m certainly not the first person to be in a relationship with a younger man, but somehow I was plucked out as a bit of a poster girl. I don’t know why that is. But I just kind of step back sometimes and say, ‘There is some reason, and what is it that I have to share in a positive way?’”

“[About being called a cougar] I’d prefer to be called a puma. I'm going to get T-shirts that say puma power.’”

“[Posting on Twitter] You post something and get your finger on the pulse. You know what people are interested in. I can’t impress enough the difference in how people are perceiving me. They’re getting to see who I am.”

You can read the entire article here.

Now. About those pictures.

Is it us or are they a little disturbing? She looks like she's starving. It's not just the alarmingly skinny arms, tiny waist, and child-sized legs, it's the wide-eyed look. She LITERALLY looks like she's starving.

You know, we don't deny that there is sexism in the entertainment industry and rarely does the industry have any place for women over 40. But we look at these pictures and think "You know, you might be up for more roles if you didn't look like, oh, say... a CRAZY STARVING PERSON?" It's the same thing with Nicole Kidman. There's a certain class of Hollywood women who have dieted and surgically altered themselves to the point where they really don't look like people. Not healthy people, anyway. There's a reason that the leading actresses in the over-45 category are women like Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren. Because they smartly realized a long time ago that the ingenue parts were gone forever and there was no use going after something they were never going to get again.

Of course, the fact that Demi never could act to save her life probably has something to do with her lack of roles, but still. We just want to grab people like this, shake them, and say, "Despite what your insular little industry has told you, it's okay to look like a human being." Seriously. We look at her and all we can do, despite her fame and fortune, is feel a little sorry for her. Imagine what she sees when she looks in the mirror. Imagine the kind of stress and self-image that causes you to go to the extremes required to look like that.

We realize there's no small amount of photoshopping involved here, so who knows what her real body looks like, but we're talking less about her waist size and more about her face, which looks pinched and sharp and undernourished.

No, there aren't a lot of roles for actresses over forty. That's true and that's not cool. But there are even less roles for actresses trying desperately to look 20 years younger than their age. "Desperation" is a terrible quality for a movie star to project.

In or Out: Demi Moore

Demi Moore attends the White Party hosted by Sean "Diddy" Combs and Ashton Kutcher to help raise awareness for Malaria No More held at a Private Residence in Beverly Hills wearing Andrew Gn.

Say what you will about these two - that they're enjoying a level of fame in relation to the amount of work they do that would embarrass most normal people, that they're more famous for their relationship with each other than anything else, that they represent the triumph of looks and style over any form of substance - we wouldn't disagree with a word of that. But we have to say, they do have a knack for showing up looking flawless.

Andrew Gn Spring 2009 Collection
Model: Georgina Stojilkovic

It's a fabulously pretty little summer day dress and while we would normally roll our eyes at any couple who would coordinate their outfits to this extent (yes, yes: it's the White Party and all, but that just reinforces our disdain for social invitations that come with a color requirement), we can't deny that they make an eye-catching pair. IN.

But she could've at least tried for some different jewelry.

Cartier 100th Anniversary

Darlings, the celebrities came out to celebrate diamonds! Have you ever heard of anything more meaningful in your life? It's the Cartier 100th Anniversary in America Celebration at Cartier Fifth Avenue Mansion in New York City - and you weren't invited! Let's be snotty and judge them instead.

Anne Hathaway:
Modified Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 Collection
Model: Magdalena Frackowiak

Well, okay. Good for her for insisting on some modifications because the original dress was kind of ugly and besides, Anne Hathaway doesn't expose her nipples for less than 7 figures. Problem is, it's modified to the point of not only being an entirely different dress; it's a boring and kind of ugly one to boot.

Demi Moore:
Prabal Gurung Fall 2009 Collection
Model:
Megan McNierney

She looks fabulous. No complaints here.

Eva Mendes:
Azarro Fall 2009 Collection
Model: Sabrina Benamor

It's a pretty fab dress and it looks better on her than on the model. The only thing is, that neckline paired with those shoulders does kind of give off the distinct whiff of Rose Nyland, no? Love the Giuseppe Zanotti sandals.

Rachel Weisz:
Prabal Gurung Fall 2009 Collection
Model: Hyoni Kang

Again, no complaints here. Love the shoes.

Kate Hudson:
Rachel Roy Fall 2009 Collection
Model: Jill Bauwens

We've seen this dress on other starlets and it's not an easy dress to pull off. Surprisingly (because she rarely demonstrates this skill), she's wearing the hell out of it. Since it's got such a '40s feel to it, we would have recommended a more structured hairstyle though.
