Jesse & Jonathan

Boys in the middle.

Model: Alexis Broker

This was a surprisingly good entry from Jesse.

We say that because frankly, we haven't liked anything he's sent down that runway before this. Sure, it just skirts up to the border of tacky, but we're talking Heidi here. Lots of thigh and lots of boob are to be expected. We really like the weave and the way he did the cups.

The back is kind of a mess, though.

And while he's to be commended for using a rich color, the fabric reads a little downscale.

Model: Alison Gingerich

Jonathan was so proud of his little romper but we had a hard time signing onto it. Mainly because, romper, y'know?.

But it drapes nicely and it's executed pretty flawlessly, so he's got that.

And loath as we are to admit it, fashion editors do love rompers even if all right-thinking people do not.

Bottom line is it's trendy and it had a lot of nice touches. The only thing working against it is the lack of color. Had this been rendered in eye-catching hues, we bet Joanna Coles would have been all over it.

But look how cute he is when he's all proud. He's so Pixar.

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Anthony Williams

Last, but DEFINITELY not least.

Anthony Williams
Age: 28
Hometown: Birmingham, AL

Favorite designer(s)?
Zuhair Murad.
What is your design training?
University of Alabama, and Linda Sears of TK Designs challenged me to sew better.
What's influenced your designs over the years?
An appreciation of luxury and a better quality of living.
What is a fashion must?
Confidence.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
Silk taffeta.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
Solids.
What are your favorite colors?
I celebrate all colors done correctly.
Who are your favorite style icons?
The cast of Dynasty. Diahann Carroll exuded confidence, beauty, grace and luxury.
If you weren't designing, you'd be . . .
Working with the Miss USA organization.
Favorite designer from past seasons of Project Runway?
I really enjoyed Austin Scarlett.

"The cast of Dynasty!" How can you not LOVE that?

Aw, that's sweet.

There's no queen like a southern, black queen. He may be a little lacking in some areas (why did we not see any of the pieces hanging on the rack?), but they knew they had a character on their hands. Clearly he can sew and clearly, he's a walking soundbite generator. We like this one. He looks like he's going to be fun. Although to be honest, that whole "I grew up in the ghetto" schtick is gonna get old if he doesn't have the goods to back it up.

And speaking of goods, let's look at his portfolio:

Umm... as far as we can tell, that's it. That's his portfolio. It's not exactly fashion-forward, but it's dramatic and very much in that Dynasty vein that he was talking about.

Oh, who cares? He's gonna be fun. We can tell.

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Jesse LeNoir

Or as we like to call him, Thurston Howell IV

Jesse LeNoir
Age: 25
Hometown: Painesville, OH

Favorite designer(s)?
Thom Browne, Tom Ford, Tomas Maier, Balenciaga, Dior, Hedi Slimane.
Current occupation?
Actor and fashion designer for House of Kilroy.
Can you describe past jobs you've had?
Performed in Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial at the Walt Disney World Resort.
What is your design training?
I am self-taught. I learned how to use a sewing machine while in college studying to be an actor.
What are your strengths as a designer?
I use my tailoring background to make pieces that are well-fitted and beautifully constructed.
What's influenced your designs over the years?
Balenciaga, Dior, military uniforms, and my fiancee, the woman I've always made clothes for.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
I love to work with wool, particularly for coats.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
Solids more often, because I'm usually creating a pattern in the way that I'm cutting the garment.
What are your favorite colors?
Green and gray.
Favorite designer from past seasons of Project Runway?
I liked Danny V's work, as well as Santino's and Jillian's.

We've been saying for years that it was only a matter of time before "actors who can sew" wound up in the cast. We're just surprised it took so long.

Never has the phrase "audition tape" seemed so apt a description. And yay! A vaguely homophobic joke plus a dig at Chris March for being fat! WELL DONE, Thurston. You're a shoo-in for fan favorite.

YEAH, ZOE! GET IN HIS FACE! TELL HIM HE SUCKS!

To be fair, the coat that transforms into a jacket is really nice. That, plus his personal style, plus his willingness to defend his work are more than likely the reasons he got picked, because his portfolio:

Is not good, poodles. Not good at all. We'll give him props for "point of view" and we suspect he'll be entertaining to a certain extent, possibly even controversial, so we'll wait and see.

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Mila Hermanovski

She's a stealth contestant, darlings.

Mila Hermanovski
Age: 40
Hometown: Dallas, TX

Okay, before we get into it, we're going to admit to our shallowness: we always sit up a little straighter and pay attention when someone with great personal style is before us. Sue us. We're fashion bloggers. LOVE the shoes, lady! And love the hair too!

Favorite designer(s)?
Helmut Lang, Preen, Courrèges, Balenciaga and Ralph Rucci.
Current occupation?
Costumer, TV/film and personal stylist.
Can you describe past jobs you've had?
Assistant designer for Calvin Klein and an associate at a fashion trend-forecasting publication.
What is a fashion must?
Perfectly tailored black blazer, trench coat, cashmere cardigan and well-fitting jeans.
What is your design training?
BFA in Apparel Design, Rhode Island School of Design; internship in UK for designer Val Piriou.
What's influenced your designs over the years?
Modern art and architecture, graphic design, vintage design, pop/street culture, music.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
Wool, silk crepe, knits and any fabric that has stretch.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
Solids or graphic patterns.
What are your favorite colors?
Black, white, red, purple and metallics.
Favorite designer from past seasons of Project Runway?
Daniel Vosovic.

Okay, what did we mean by stealth contestant? Merely that she's a little on the quiet side but the more you pay attention to her, the more you're like, "Hey, I kinda like this one."

And come on, the whole "my radical intellectual grandfather went to jail?" BEST AUDITION VIDEO STORY EVER.

See what we mean? She kind of sneaks up on you and before you know it, you're listening to everything she's saying and loving everything she's showing you.

Of a piece with her personality, her pieces all kind of draw you in. At first glance, they're deceptively simple, but then it's all, "Ooh, I like what she did there."

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Emilio Sosa

Sorry for the repetition, darlings, but we've gotta wrap these up. S7Premiere in 3 days!

Emilio Sosa
Age: 43
Hometown: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Favorite designer(s)?
Charles James.
Current occupation?
Costume designer.
What is a fashion must?
Ladies: Croc three-inch pumps. Men: Navy suit, properly fitted.
What is your design training?
Five years at Pratt and 20 years at Grace Costumes, Inc.
Have you won any awards related to design?
TDF/Irene Sharaff Young Master Award, 2006. Named Design Virtuoso by American Theater Magazine, 2003.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
Double wool crepe.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
Both.
What are your favorite colors?
All.
What fashion faux pas drives you crazy?
Clothing that's too tight.
Project Runway challenge you wish they'd bring back for your season?
Jet-setter with a trip to Paris.

The look on Princess Puffysleeve's face is priceless. The princess is NOT impressed.
In a way, we can't blame him. We make no predictions as to his future on the show and no assessments as to his talent, but the fact of the matter is, his portfolio, as presented, is awfully weak. He seems like a nice enough guy but he's not, so far as we can tell, a "personality" in the reality TV sense, so how did he get cast, exactly? He does have extensive costuming experience, so maybe he was cast on the strength of his resume. We'll see.

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Jesus Estrada

Mexi-Twink alert!

Jesus Estrada
Age: 21
Hometown: Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico

When did you realize you had designer potential?
When I started dressing Barbies.
Favorite designer(s)?
Alexander McQueen, Dolce and Gabbana.
What is a fashion must?
A murse (men's purse).
What is your design training?
Fashion Careers College, and a special thanks to Somsi Couture.
What's influenced your designs over the years?
Everything grandiose. Dolce and Gabbana. Things that are dark and edgy, slightly punk.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
Organza, dupioni, silk, leather, reptile prints.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
Patterns.
What are your favorite colors?
Black, gray, midnight blue. Dark colors.
Favorite designer from past seasons of Project Runway?
Jay, Austin and Gordana. She should've made it to Bryant Park.
Project Runway challenge you hope they bring back for your season?
The Barbie challenge and the flower challenge.

Oh, kittens. That last answer makes a lot more sense once you scroll down and look at his portfolio.

How fucking cute is that little latin hobbit?

Uncle Nick is jealous that there's someone with a smaller waist than him. And as much as we love Saint Tim, we don't agree with his somewhat limiting "taxi cab" criterion when it comes to fashion.

Well, if they ever open Disney World Mexico, he's sure to have a career. He's clearly got impressive technical skills, but if he can't get away from that Quinceanera Barbie aesthetic, Nina and Michael are going to rake him over the coals.
