There was a little girl who had a lot of curls...

We said it last week: when Korto goes off the rails, she really goes off the rails.

At her best, she produces interesting, sometimes eye-popping, innovative designs, but in her quest to be different, she sometimes winds up with designs that aren't so much eye-popping as eye-searing. With Korto, it's either amazingly beautiful or insanely ugly. We think there's a reason for that.

We said that Leanne has an intellectual approach to design. When Leanne fails, the result is usually bland or boring. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Korto, who has not so much an intellectual approach as an emotional one. She needs to produce something amazing, something different. So when she fails, she fails badly but when she succeeds, the results are vibrant and amazing.

Unfortunately for her, she failed badly on this one. She wanted to produce a wedding dress that was different and unusual and she certainly accomplished that.

The end result was certainly different but it was ugly, overworked, and almost unwearable.

We're all for the idea of producing a wedding gown that goes against conventions and we love it when a designer or a bride goes for the nontraditional non-white gown. Unfortunately, this color is drab.

And the silhouette is just plain weird.

But the real crime is that it's way overdone. She worked that fabric so hard it looked like it was going to burst into tears of exhaustion at any moment. And is it us or are those ruffles on the shoulders uneven? There are way more on the left side than there are on the right. Not that symmetry is required, but going asymmetrical on a dress that already has so much going on was yet another bad idea.

The bridesmaid dress was at least a little better but we have to say it's somewhat notable that she completed this dress in the company of her peers and with the advice of a mentor. Much like Jerell, she may have needed the guidance to produce better work.

It's pretty. We think this one's also a little overworked but compared to the wedding dress it's the picture of simplicity.

We like the pleating in the bust but the two sides look a little uneven to us.

We like the fullness of the skirt and the layered hem. We also really like the belt but that's at least in part due to the fact that it's the only color to be found on either of these dresses.

Which brings us to our final complaint: the overall color scheme.

We got a little flack for saying that Kenley's dresses didn't look like they go together and Leanne's did. People mistakenly took that to mean that we thought the dresses should have "matched" somehow. What we meant was the dresses needed to look like they were going for the same feel. Both of Leanne's dresses had that ethereal dreamlike quality to them whereas Kenley's wedding dress was an over-the-top fantasy dress paired with a basic party dress for the bridesmaid.

We can at least admit that these dresses look compatible but the problem is with the color scheme. If you're going to put the bride in a somewhat drab neutral, it kind of behooves you to put some sort of color on the rest of the bridal party. Not only are both dresses colorless, they're virtually the same neutral tone. This would have been the most depressing wedding ever.

We would have been very upset if Korto had been auf'd over these dresses but we certainly would have understood why. The judges looked at the whole of their output and the potential for their runway show and decided that Korto had more going on than Jerell did. Having seen both of their runway shows, we have to say we agreed with them on that.

It's like rain on your wedding day.

Irony abounds, darlings. The one we wanted sent home from week one kinda grew on us and the one who deserved more wins under her belt couldn't get off our TV screen fast enough last night.

Were they not the cutest team? It seems no matter who Stella is paired with, we want them to get a reality show together.

Dear GOD, kittens.

What are we supposed to say here?

The Duchess nailed it: it's a joke.

When clowns get tumors, is this what they look like?

Variation on a theme: clown farts.

We don't get it at all. Why pair all those candy colors with a flesh-colored aerobics outfit? What was the point to all the leathuh straps, aside from giving Stella something to do?

Even though Blayne started out pretty damn annoying, we were kind of fond of him by the end. He's just this clueless kid who seemed to be having quite a bit of fun throughout the competition.

Sure, he played to the cameras too much and he never produced anything that proved to us that he should be there, but we can't hate people who try and bring a little lightheartedness to all the pretension and bitchery. Au Revoir, Blayne de Soleil.

Worst team ever? Quite possibly.

Keith was still in full-on feel-sorry-for-me mode and while we don't blame Terri for having little patience for him, the fact is, she was OUTRAGEOUSLY nasty the whole time. There's fun bitchery and then there's just ridiculosity.

And speaking of ridiculous...

Although, to be fair, we really didn't see this as deserving of the auf. We don't exactly like it, but there were others on that runway that screamed "SEND ME HOME!"

Really, the only thing we hate are those ridiculous sleeves.

They look chip in a chip way, no?

It's kind of ironic, because during the drag challenge, Terri made a decidedly UNdrag garment and now for the avant garde challenge she makes something that would fit right in at the Night of a Thousand Gowns.

Oh, right. We hate the big tails, too.

The rest of it's just okay. Not avant garde, but then again, what was last night?

We kinda wish she'd stuck to the fur idea. It might have bumped this look up a bit. As it is, it just looks kind of tacky and tawdry.

And how DELICIOUS that Xaviera couldn't keep herself from busting out at the Duchess' comments. That is a PR first.

"Voodoo princess in hell." That's about right.

We're not giving Keith a free pass here. He was whiny and annoying but from what we could tell, he started off ready to help Terri. Her over-the-top bitchiness toward him was just ugly to watch and we kind of think since she clearly couldn't keep it off the runway, it played a part in the judges' decision to send her home. Sucks for her, because she did some damn good work during the competition and didn't get enough recognition for it. On the other hand, she was just so damn nasty last night that we couldn't work up a lot of sympathy for her.

Clearing the Decks

Oh, fine.

Nothing about this really speaks to the whole '40s spy, Marlene Dietrich thing but then again, we'd lay odds that Blayne has absolutely no idea who Dietrich was.

We like the coat quite a bit taken on its own. For this outfit and this challenge, not so much.

We hate the knickers too but only because he chose a poor fabric for them and because they just don't go with the whole theme.

But y'know, Blayne isn't the joke we all assumed at the start of the season. He definitely has a youthful point of view and some skill as a designer. We just think he suffers from a kind of designer immaturity. No understanding of how to put a look together or how to draw on reference points.

On the one hand, we can applaud Jerrell's attempt to really fit this into an existing collection. The cinched waist with the belt and the layered looks is very much of a piece with DVF's collection.

On the other hand, that belt is the wrong color and the layered pieces look a little too bulky and sloppy.

Plus, the skirt's too short. And we hate the hat. Despite that, not a bad effort.

Oh, for God's sake.

We don't know WHAT the hell's going on here. We're happy to see him break away from that party dress silhouette he was falling back on too much, but this isn't exactly an improvement.

We like that print but we don't think he utilized it well at all.

And that vest is totally wrong. Neither the fabric nor the shape goes with that dress.

The skirt's too full up top...

...and too long on the bottom. Just an all-around strange look from a strange designer.
