...And the rest.
And speaking of wrapping things up...
This is for the chic martial artist who wants to be sassy and wear her brown belt ON HER HEAD.
These two worked well together but the simmering egos just under the surface made us think things were going to explode any minute.
We really liked the sketch but somehow it's not working as well on the model. They seemed to stick pretty close to the original design but those kimono sleeves really make it and they kind of fall flat in the final product.
In fact, those aren't kimono sleeves at all, are they?
God, it's like they shoot these models in dark alleys somewhere. Would it kill them to turn on some lights now and then?
We defended brown tights yesterday for Kit's outfit and that means our quota is used up for the next year. We can't go two days in a row defending tights or we won't be able to look at ourselves in the mirror.
It's just a flat, bleh kinda look. Not particularly flattering in real life and not nearly as chic as the sketch implied. Terrible accessories, too.
And the Jiffy Pop hair didn't help.
"Oh, Anita! It is so beautiful! Tonight is my first real dance as an AMERICAN girl!"
Ricky sez: "My intention wasn't for the dress to be pretty pretty as it was already pretty. I needed an edge to it, so I made a belt. This was the second piece."
Well Ricky, unfortunately adding a riding crop to it means it's just a pretty dress with a riding crop. We'll wait for you to finish crying before we continue.
Jack sez: "Ricky has the sickest model."
We say: "Jack, we totally agree that Lea is the best model so far this season, but we're alarmed that a 37-year-old man is trying to sound like a 16-year-old skaterat. Stop that."
He's a Muscle Mary from Chelsea!
And he's a Muscle Papi from Escondido!
Together, they fight fashion crimes on BICEPS & BIAS CUTS, a fabulous new series this fall on LOGO!
Don't get us wrong, we loved this dress. Beautiful detail on the neckline and lovely proportions on the little sleeves.
The belt's a big "enh" for us. Nothing really wrong with it and we get the idea of mixing pieces with a slight edge to them with pieces that are conventionally pretty, but for the most part the overall effect was a bit bland.
Pretty, but bland. We'll give it up for the muscleboys for working well together and producing a cute, very retailable garment.
Actually, we don't really need an excuse to give it up for muscleboys.

Kit & Chris

"Most women feel that they have to like save their special clothes for a special occasion. Well, fuck that!"
Well alright, then! That's a philosophy we can get behind. But before we get to that, how cute was Chris this week?
Although granted, much like Carmen's display, we couldn't actually see any tears. Still, though. Cute.
Cute's definitely the theme here, which is surprising, because we'd never have used that word to describe the aesthetic of either one of these designers. But cute this outfit definitely is.
Shoot us for using a Nina-ism, but she "really thought about it." It's not just a cute top. There's a blending of various design elements - the pockets, the neckline, the sleeves - that shows a real thoughtfulness and sense of style.
It's flattering; it fits her well, and we love the proportions on the sleeve and neckline.
Honestly, we're almost never a fan of tights - and we're not fans of them here - but if you're going to wear them, this is the perfect type of top for them. It's a young, classic look and the most appropriate one for the top.
There's just one bit that's like nails on a chalkboard to us.
The hat, kittens. We just can't get behind it. To be honest, it nearly ruins the look for us. There's nothing inherently wrong with a beret, but with her hair and that outfit, it comes off downright costume-y. Like they're shooting The Leslie Caron Story for Lifetime.
Still, it's a supercute look. The elements on the top override any of the other sort of flat styling choices.

Christian & Carmen
That bitch can sketch.
Not only that; it appears to us that he comes into a project with everything fully formed. That sketch looks almost exactly like the finished look. No "take it as it comes" or "we'll see what happens" with this one. There's no journey in Christian's work; it's all destination.
And let's face it: there should have been more of a toning down and/or reimagining at some point during the process. We suspect SJP picked him to realize his design based on the strength of his sketch but assumed there would be some tweaking along the way.
Let's start with the jacket. Lorenzo hated it on sight (and can't get past the white zipper) but Tom kinda liked it.
Sure the silhouette's a bit much, but pair that jacket with a skinny pair of jeans and a killer set of heels and that would be a hot look.
Unfortunately, they paired it with this dress. And model. And shoes. And hair, makeup and jewelry.
In other words, after the jacket, every single other choice they made was the wrong choice.
First, the dress is too tight and unflattering. The hem is too high, the color is boring and the turtleneck is too overwhelming.
Second, the belt and shoes bring it firmly into the arena of "Office Christmas Party '89." We agree with SJP. He's so young that he didn't even realize how literally retro he was being. He thought he was putting all these great style elements together when all he was doing was revisiting a look an entire generation of office assistants wore as their uniform for about half a decade starting right around the time he was forming his spinal column.
And girl could use some Spanx. Just sayin'.
Princess is certainly quite full of herself, but maybe that's what she thinks she needs to stay focused and competitive. Certainly, it makes for better television.
Maybe we're getting old - we're still young enough to start that sentence with "maybe" though - but what we used to look at as youthful exuberance more and more looks to us like blockheaded inexperience coupled with the inability to self-examine. It's more exciting to be young and completely full of yourself, but it's more interesting to be experienced and aware of your strengths and limitations.
It's WAY too early in the game to write him off, but early impressions lead us to believe that girlfriend needs to seriously examine what she's doing rather than constantly blowing kisses to herself in the mirror. And as an aside, big kudos to SJP for going out of her way to give him the most constructive, helpful criticism she could.
One more thing...
The absolute least believable crying scene in the history of ever.
SQUEEZE!
SQUEEZE THOSE TEARS OUT!

Laverne & Shirley

Her freaky "I wanted Sweet P ALL ALONG." complete with shifty eyes needed only the requisite shrieking violin Psycho music to make the moment complete.
But we told you! Didn't we tell you? We knew there was more to this chickie than simply being "whacky."
Yes, okay. She IS whacky, there's no denying that.
It really says something when biker chicks are scared to be around you.
A couple people have asked us if we think Elisa's "for real" or whether she's playing a character. That's kind of a tough call to make on two episodes alone, but we get the impression she's someone who's completely oblivious to social norms when she's in the middle of creating something.
"Aaaaaand....CHAKRA!"
So she marks her fabric with spit. Sure, that makes great television, but everyone needs to calm down a little. It's not like she wiped her ass with it.
If anything, we think everyone else treats her so much like a character it makes it easy to disregard what she's doing. Is she whacky? Sure.
But the outfit is fucking gorgeous.
Not super-crazy about the colors, but the overall look is pretty and feminine and chic.
Even if you're not a fan of capes, you have to give it up for that dress.
That's just a simple, beautiful design.
Granted, the Elisa story has heavy editing written all over it, so it's hard to break down who did what during the process. We suspect there's quite a bit of Sweet P in the dress - and we're pretty sure she did a lot of the finishing.
But this is twice in a row that an Elisa design belied her "whacky hippy" image. We're not sure whether she's got the goods to stay in the game, but that's part of the appeal. We literally have no idea what she's going to produce next, but we're eager to see it.
"The planet where I am is one that's been trained to respond purely to materials and doesn't necessarily know the language, but knows how to make it work on the body. So, I'm coming to your planet, but with gifts."
Sing it, Puppet Girl.
