Marion Lee
Lorenzo: I couldn't concentrate much on the piece because this bitch couldn't walk to save her life. I don't like the choice of fabrics on this.
Tom: I agree. I don't particularly like the proportions on this either.
Lorenzo: It seems like the top doesn't work with the bottom.
Tom: I kinda like this. I still think the fabric choices are off and she does look like she's farting feathers, but it's kind of cute.
Lorenzo: I go back and forth on this one. I like the concept, I love the way the skirt moved on the runway, not crazy about the feathers. I do love the top.
Tom: Me too.
Lorenzo: I thought it was a great look. Lea is a great model and she worked the shit out of it.
Tom: It has a sort of Halston-y vibe to it, which is nice, but I think the top's a little blouse-y.
Jillian Lewis
Tom: Shocked the shit outta me.
Lorenzo: I have to say that I'm really impressed with her. I didn't expect this level of craftsmanship. The-
Tom: Shut up and let me speak. I agree with you. At first I was like "Oh, it's all a little too Dr. Zhivago," but I have to admit, it looks great.
Lorenzo: The look is very hot. But the model almost ruined it. She walked like she had just fallen off the horse.
Lorenzo: I loved this look. The details were amazing.
Tom: Liked, not loved. I have a little bias against the Cabaret-esque garters showing. I'm really working the film references in on this one.
Lorenzo: To be honest, I wasn't wowed by this piece.
Tom: I have to say, it's not my taste, but it was very dramatic - and perfectly executed.
Lorenzo: I agree that it was dramatic for the runway, but do you really want to wear that?
Tom: Well, no. But last time I checked, I'm not a girl. I love the silver.
Lorenzo: I love the top; I just don't like the bottom.
Ricky Lizalde
Tom: I have to give him credit for going in a different direction. I don't know if lingerie's his "thing," or if he made a conscious decision to be the odd man out.
Lorenzo: Daniel Vosovic said the same thing.
Tom: Hmmph.
Lorenzo: I agree. When it first came down the runway, I was like, "This is your big chance and you chose lingerie?" But they were so well done, that I can see why he did it.
Tom: And it got him attention.
Lorenzo: I loved this.
Tom: I liked the model too.
Lorenzo: Me too. I thought this piece was very sexy.
Tom: Too basic. Looks like Daniel Franco lingerie.
Lorenzo: A little matronly.
Chris March
Tom: I'm going to start off by saying Chris' stuff is a little gay. Not necessarily in a bad way, but it has that Nick Verreos "FIERCE!" vibe to it.
Lorenzo: I like the dress. I just wish -- the trim looked a little funny. On the back especially.
Tom: I just thought it looked way too '90s.
Tom: I liked this one, though.
Lorenzo: I did too, but I didn't like the chain across the top -
Tom: Agreed.
Lorenzo - and it was a little too pucker-y in the back.
Lorenzo: I absolutely loved this dress. Very sexy and it moved perfectly on the runway.
Tom: I agree. It's Furstenbergalicious.
Lorenzo: I can see a celebrity wearing this on the red carpet.
Jack Mackenroth
Tom: I'm gonna go first on this because I know you and a lot of others liked this. I wasn't crazy about it. I'll admit, it photographs well but in my opinion, that's because the fabric does all the work. That cape looks dramatic, but in person, the whole thing was kind of shapeless. Plus, I have a bias against cutesy trompe l'oeil stitching.
Lorenzo: I really liked it. I thought it was a very sophisticated look. Camilla did a fantastic job. The only thing is that when she turned, the cape didn't have much structure and it just looked like fabric hanging off her shoulder.
Tom: This, I loved.
Lorenzo: I thought it was very cute. I'm a sucker for fabulous prints. Lagerfeld once said that prints were for middle-aged women with weight problems -
Tom: Oh go suck your fan, Karl.
Lorenzo - but I disagree with him. I think a dress can be all about the print.
Tom: So long as the print isn't doing all the work,
Lorenzo: True. And I think he does a great job with prints.
Tom: Case in point. This is a gorgeous print, although it's a fairly basic dress.
Lorenzo: Even though I didn't like the sparkly trim, I absolutely love this dress.
Tom: You ARE a sucker for prints.
Lorenzo: Yes, I am. And Marilinda did a fantastic job. What did he do to get Camilla, Marilinda AND Amanda to walk for him?
Tom: Took his clothes off.

Bring it, Bitches.
Let's get to it, shall we?
Kevin Christiana:

Lorenzo: I hated it. I thought it was very "Jeffrey" and not in a good way.
Tom: I didn't mind it. It's a bit plain. Hate the tights, though.

Lorenzo: Love it! Thought the pants were hot as hell. Extremely impressed with the structure and fit of the jacket.
Tom: I hate to say it, but I agree. Much as I wish they weren't, formal shorts are very hot right now. A nicely put-together look.

Tom: Bleh. Talbot's for teenagers.
Lorenzo. Yeah, it's like mother and daughter dressed in one look.
Victorya Hong:

Lorenzo: I absolutely HATE sashes.
Tom: At least it's not tied in a bow. I don't mind this look. It's simple, but overall it works.

Lorenzo: I think Camilla saved this outfit. It's basically the same thing, different color.
Tom: I don't think even SHE could save it. Those are pukey colors - and I hate all that crap on the top.

Tom: LOVE.
Lorenzo: We could have made the same criticisms about this one, but there was something about the way it moved, combined with the colors. It was breathtaking when she walked.
Tom: I agree. The colors absolutely made this outfit. Personally, my favorite out of the whole show. Simple done right.
Lorenzo: Mine too. A perfect example of needing to see the outfit in person. The pictures didn't do it justice.
Elisa Jimenez:

Lorenzo: I was DUMBFOUNDED when I saw this. I loved it. Of course, you have to have zero body fat to wear it, but hey. If you do...
Tom: I was surprised at how well executed this was. It looks like some sort of loopy deconstructed thing when you first see it, but when she walked past us, I could see how well-made it was. Pure high-impact.

Tom: Speaking of loopy, deconstructed things...
Lorenzo: Did she even use a needle and a thread?
Tom: No, a loom.

Tom: Well, she's barefoot, so we'd hate it no matter what.
Lorenzo: What's with the top a different color?
Tom: You can see color?
Lorenzo: She looks like she's wet.
Tom: And not in the good way.
Lorenzo: Hates it.
Tom: Concurs.
Rami Kashou:

Lorenzo: Oh my God, don't get me started on this one.
Tom: Kayne, party of one. Kayne, party of one. I don't hate it, but you go ahead.
Lorenzo: It looks like she was gift-wrapped - in a dollar store.
Tom: I agree that she looks a little lamp-shadey and the fabric is awful, but if Rami - *sigh*
Lorenzo: *sigh*
Tom: - if he wanted to impress the crowd with his construction skills, mission accomplished.

Tom: One thing I noticed right off the bat is that Amanda could barely walk in this.
Lorenzo: And that bitch can WALK. It's a fucking prom dress.
Tom: It's Morticia's prom dress. I hate that bustline.

Lorenzo: I love your drapes.
Tom: Put a couch in front of her.
Lorenzo: I feel a bit bad because Rami - *sigh*
Tom: *sigh*
Lorenzo: - he can do better. Quite frankly, I'm disappointed.
Tom: Like I said, I think he was trying to show off his construction skills, but this was all just a little too goddess-y by way of Star Trek. Maybe it would look better on a green bitch.
Lorenzo: I don't know how else to say it, but his approach comes off way too "fashiony."
Simone LeBlanc:

Tom: *HURL*
Lorenzo: I'm speechless.
Tom: I'm not. First: the gloves. I know they're trendy right now but I think they look RIDICULOUS. Second, this was VERY deconstructed up close. Unfinished hems and all. Third: The COLORS are HIDEOUS.
Lorenzo: Um. I agree.

Lorenzo: Apparently she got a deal on that fabric.
Tom: It does have "99 cents/yard" written all over it.

Lorenzo: Okay, we see your boobs. I mean, there's nothing there.
Tom: It's quite a feat to make something hideous AND nondescript at the same time. It's like...invisibly ugly.

Whetting Your Appetites

First up: an interview with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn:
How does the cast of fourth season compare to previous seasons?
Tim Gunn: With each successive season of "Project Runway," at least in my view, the group of designers has been stronger and stronger. And Season Four is our strongest group yet.
Heidi Klum: I think it had something to do with that so many people see the credibility of the show and [the contestants] really have to have talent in order to succeed. I think that people see that and they go, "OK. Wow. This could be a really big opportunity for me."
Who comes up with the challenges and how are they kept interesting every year?
HK: We all do. I mean there's, you know, people from Bravo ... I've come up with some of the challenges and basically we all kick them around. And then ... whatever challenges are the best, they make it. One challenge that I came up was, for example, that made it on the show that I thought was really great and everyone loved was "Clothes Off Your Back."
Who was your favorite/hated designer?
HK: My favorite drama queen really was [Season Two contestant] Santino [Rice], I have to say. He was not only a great designer but ... the things that came out of his mouth sometimes were just unbelievable ... I just kind of liked that ... he was so blunt and just straight forward. But at the same time, he made it on there because he was really good and ultimately he made it all the way to the end.
TG: I found Santino to also be very lovable. But I had a kind of relationship with him because I was in the workroom with him all the time.
Give us the scoop on the new season.
HK: There's always lots and lots of drama. We always put a twist [on the show] because that is the most exciting things ... I love it when I can break the news to [the contestants] that some things are going a little different this time around ... There are definitely twists.
TG: We had one designer who had a difficult time with the experience of the show ... When I probed and asked, "Why does all this surprise you? You've seen the show." And the response was, "Why I didn't think it was really the way that it appeared on television. I thought that it was all cheated and that in fact there were days for these challenges and breaks in between."
Next: PREVIEW, POODLES!
And our good friend Mo Ryan has a bunch of spoilerific preview clips.

RunGay at the Runway
Darlings, we had the pleasure of attending the runway show today featuring the works of all the Season 4 designers. We're too exhausted to do much more than string these paltry few sentences together, so instead, here's the video from the event. Each designer showed three looks. We'll come back later with the inside dish, fabulous pictures and of course, our opinions.
The designers in the order in which they showed their collections - Kevin Christiana, Victorya Hong, Elisa Jimenez, Rami Kashou, Simone LeBlanc, Marion Lee, Jillian Lewis, Ricky Lizalde, Chris March, Jack Mackenroth, Steven Rosengard, Kit, Christian Siriano, Sweet P, and Carmen Webber:

Fresh (But Not Raw) Meat

Adorable Andy Cohen had a little hissy fit on his blog yesterday. Let's listen in, shall we?:
"Today, NY Post TV Critic Linda Stasi has a piece complaining that this season's designers on Runway are TOO TALENTED. Whaaaaayt? I often follow the old chestnut that if you don't have anything to complain about, then FIND something to complain about. Does Linda, too? Perhaps next season we'll consider a group of home-sewers to make the runway shows less interesting. (In truth, we have pretty much the same mix as we did in year's past, but Tim does consider this season's talent level to be the highest.)"
Isn't he cute when he gets indignant? Now lets see what all this fuss is about:
"DOES 'PROJECT' STILL HAVE ROOM FOR AMATEURS?"
"But it's turned into the Olympics - a competition for amateurs that morphed into a pro-preferred event. For my money, "Project" has gotten too high end - with real designers competing where beginners used to thread."
"The professional-quality competitors in the upcoming season range from a guy whose jeans made the cover of the Victoria's Secret catalog to another who dressed Jessica Alba for a recent red carpet walk. There's a lingerie designer and an active-wear designer.Still, I pine for the days of the desperate beginners. I wish they'd reversed things. Really, wouldn't you rather watch rank amateurs tackle $50,000 worth of fabric and laugh at pros trying to make designer gowns out of used tires and aerosol cans?"
"'Project Runway' is good to watch, but not as much fun as when it was just inspired wannabes with a lust for what they were doing."
Well, she certainly jumped the gun on that last sentence. How does she know whether or not this season will be as much fun as previous ones? On the other hand, Andy, doll, she has a point and we think you may have misread it. She didn't complain that this year's crop is too talented; she complained that they were too experienced - and that's a huge difference.
To be honest, we kind of agree. We had largely similar thoughts when we were first introduced to the new contestants. Will there be a Jay McCarroll among this group? A hungry, raw, untested talent? Will there be a Laura Bennett? A surprisingly polished and talented home sewer? Will there even be a Marla or Wendy Pepper? Someone who should have stayed home? Or a Lupe? A completely out-of-left-field whackjob?
Obviously, it's too early for us to say, but we were disappointed to see resumes that were so polished and accomplished. Would American Idol be as much fun to watch if every single contestant had already recorded an album?
It probably won't change the mechanics of the show because in past seasons, even the most accomplished contestants struggled under the constraints of the competition. But we can't help feeling that some of the charm is lost with such an experienced group vying for the prize.
On the other hand, we can pretty much guarantee that this year's crop is the most entitled bunch of bitches the show's ever seen and that should make for some delicious, delicious drama.
