Case Clothed

iVillage has the new Case Clothed up and Frank and Finn make appearances! It is, of course, fabulous.

As always, you can read it here.

Also, we got in touch with the strip's illustrator (and S3 alum) Robert Best who gave us a little interview.

Well, let's start with a Robert Best update. Has your life changed after Project Runway? You had a pretty solid career before the show - Isaac Mizrahi, Anne Klein and Donna Karan not to mention your years as the Principal Designer at Mattel. What have you been working on lately? Are you getting laid more?

The most significant way my life has changed since Project Runway is that I am recognized by every manner of person in the oddest places. It's not like being mobbed by adoring fans - it's more like ,"Say didn't we meet at Katy's wedding... how do I know you?" it makes a person feel a little paranoid because you reach a point where you just wanna scream" Yes... it's me - I was on the third season of Project Runway...'" the person will stare back at me perplexed and respond with something like "Dude, I was just wondering if I could work in..." or something equally humbling. Then when people seem to look at you too long, you just assume you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe or something. I thought it would all kinda go away now that there is a new cast to follow but I guess it will always be a part of what people associate with me. I pretty much have just been busy with Barbie and back to business as usual at Mattel. I get laid about the same as before. Maybe just a little more interest from some, because more people know who I am.

How are things in Barbie world? Why do you think Barbies are so universally popular, not just with little girls, but grown women and middle-aged gay men?

Barbie remains as awesome as ever. I'm very fortunate in my job. I think Barbie is universally popular because she's escapist in that good way like "Golden Girls", or an old Hollywood musical. Barbie reminds us of our childhoods and for most people those years are happy times. It doesn't seem like something bad is gonna happen when Barbie's around. Plus she has a kick-ass wardrobe and she's gone through more image overhauls than Madonna so you gotta love her.

We still remember when Laura showed us that sketch you did of her back in the day. She absolutely adored it. It's ironic that now you're sketching her once a month. What special features or characteristics about Laura inspired you to draw her that way? We noticed the character even has the infamous Hermes bag.

Laura is easy to draw because she's one of those people who is larger than life. In a way she is cartoon-y because she has this red hair, wears red lipstick and has this very specific style that translates really well into a sketch. In some ways it's almost a good lesson in style, if you distill a person's style into a cartoon or a sketch - does it translate, and if it doesn't maybe they're just boring (and I should know). Like Jackie O was big hair big sunglasses and neat little sixties suits with pillboxes, etc. I've always wanted to do a cartoon type book sketching all the great fashion icons who've inspired me like Catherine Deneuve in" Belle Du Jour", Julie Christie in "Darling", Capucine in "The Pink Panther"... maybe one day. But for now I have a ball sketching Laura in all her fabulosity.

People still talk about that fabulous coat you gave Laura. How was your relationship with her on the show? She's always had nothing but wonderful things to say about you; how talented you are and how beautifully you sketch. Now's your chance to let it all out. She's really a hardcore bitch, right?

The truth about Laura... this is the part where I say she's completely crazy or I really only took the job for the money, but honestly I've always liked Laura and though we shared insults on the show it was all in good fun. I don't think I would have liked her if she hadn't held her own or been as straight talking as she is. I like that Laura calls things as she sees them, and she pulls no punches. I prefer people with strong, sharp personalities and Laura is good that way. I don't have much time or patience for dull or stupid people.

She told us that she had nothing to do with iVillage hiring you for the strip; that you submitted your resume and they loved it. Needless to say, we're not surprised. What made you decide to give it a try?

When Laura contacted me with the iVillage project it just seemed like a really natural fit, because we get along and we have similar taste. It also just seemed like it would be a fun opportunity, and I love to draw so why not! I submitted some samples of my sketches and they were very excited at the idea, so it went forward pretty smoothly.

Do you watch Season 4? If so, what do you think of the designers? Rooting for anyone?

I am watching season 4. I'm pretty bored. Not really rooting for anyone, maybe Sweet P cuz I love her name, and Rami was such an asshole to her and she came out looking like the better person so that was fun, otherwise it is what it is.

Bad Mommy fights crime!

Darlings, Laura's first comic strip is up at iVillage and it's FABULOUS.

"The Case of the Party Primping Predicament -
Help, Laura! With the holiday season in full swing, I have so many parties to go to. I want to be glamorous. But, as a mom, I don't have the time or the money to put together an entire glam wardrobe. What can I do?"

You can read it here.

PLUS...

A fantastic interview with La Bennett at Parents.com. Some excerpts:

Parents.com: You seem so put together. Do you ever have days where you just wear sweats and no makeup?
LB: I don't have help on the weekends and sometimes if I think I am not going to be leaving the house I have a pair of stretch velvet pants I wear. My nanny laughs because they're sort of upgraded sweat pants. But I think it's a slippery slope. If I am dressed dumpy, I am going to eat badly and act dumpy. It's such a simple thing to get dressed and feel better about yourself.

Parents.com: Ever have mommy guilt about working so much?
LB: As a parent I think that it's great for my kids to see that I am taking advantages of all these opportunities. They have a healthy, successful role model. I love the idea that more moms are starting businesses and doing things for themselves. Women are amazing. Men could never handle all of the things that women do. It never gets easier, but women keep doing it and take whatever comes. We need to do a good job as parents but also have to be responsible to ourselves and live our lives to their fullest potential.

Parents.com: Venture a guess who will win this season?
LB: I'm still trying to decide. There are some contestants who think that they are all that and I don't think they are that at all.

Parents.com: Like who?
LB: I think Christian with the wacky hair is way too young and too full of himself, and he's making a mistake by not taking Tim's advice. I think Victorya and Rami are looking pretty good to me at the moment.

Best Gal

As a lot of you know, we had the pleasure and privilege of spending a couple hours at the Bennett-Shelton residence before the finale party. What we might not have mentioned is that we also had the pleasure of stopping by the next morning for coffee and dish. It's amazing how once the kids are off to school that place about triples in size.

At any rate, we'll be talking about our visits next week, but we thought we'd share something that really deserves its own post. Laura loves Robert Best and said so several times. She was raving about his sketches and how gorgeous they are when she remembered something. She went to her files and pulled this out:

It's a sketch of Laura that Robert did. How flipping fabulous is that? We of course immediately begged her for a scan so we could show it to you guys and without a second thought she went over to her scanner and printed this out for us. This is a scan of a scan of an original that was drawn on pattern paper, so it honestly doesn't do the sketch justice.

Still, it's gorgeous, right? A PRG Exclusive!

Bitchy speaks (Part zwei)

So, PR has a huge gay following, why?

Because of the hot men. I’m kidding. There are none.

Fatboy Slim

Kaynebow! You were a former fatty! There's nothing we love more than a former ugly duckling who achieves swan-dom. Although in your case, you're more of a peacock than a swan. Little secret: one of us was a former fatty too and we know what it's like to make that trip. Congratulations on clawing your way to fierceness, Girl!

Honey, just because you like colors doesn't mean you have to wear all of them at the same time.

Apparently, in Oklahoma, they put fat kids in cages or something.

Whatever suspicions we had that he might have sought out a little extra help in the looks department are...well, let's just say they're no longer suspicions. In fact, let's play a game. We'll call it "Pick out all the parts of Kayne's head that God didn't make." Ready....GO!

And kudos to Robert, who may just have uttered the gayest thing in the history of the show.

"Well good for you, you like, shed a dress size and a half!"

True, it's no "Where the HELL is my chiffon?" but you're more likely to hear Robert's bit o' queenery at your local gay coffeehouse on Sunday morning. Trust us on that one.

Bitchy Speaks.

Robert talks to Jessica Shaw about the judges' motivations, Laura's sex life, and his newfound status as a fashion heartthrob
.

"Laura was fun because she could dish it out but she could also take it." SO true!

Read more here.

Take me back, Barbie! Take me back!

We know we're probably gonna hear it from some of you because he was certainly a favorite, but Robert's auf'ing was totally justified as far as we were concerned. The judges spew a lot of bullshit half the time, but their mantra of "boring...boring...boring" was exactly right in his case. He produced exactly two nice outfits (the first challenge and the dog challenge - and even they weren't all that exciting; just cute) and everything else he produced was a boring, discount department store retread.

Work it, girl!

Sorry, but that's pure Lane Bryant Clearance Rack. We can't even come up with any jokes about it, that's how boring this piece was.

Robert! Some buttons, a print, feathers - anything! You didn't even pick a nice red. That one is tomatoey, which is not only not a good association to make with a plus-sized woman, but it makes her skin look yellow. What kind of 'mo are you? For shame!

Still, he was obviously loved by his co-designers and popular with viewers. We're sorry to see him go but can't say we didn't see it coming.

And it was sweet how everyone applauded him.

The Desperate Model Shimmy!

"This dress is tacky and my designer thinks I look like a hooker and the judges have been frowning at him lately and I'm working the shit out of this thing because I don't want to be barefoot in a black slip standing next to Heidi tomorrow morning!"

"Boop Boop Be Doo!"

For the BEST in sewing tools, choose BEST.

Okay, we get that in the cutthroat world of Project Runway, you might want to label your tools when you're surrounded by backstabbing bitches in pursuit of the Saturn Sky Roadster. We get that. Really.

Still...

Robert honey, there was no need to be so flamboyant about it. We're surprised you didn't use a glitter pen. That's not even labeling, that's a signature. Hell, that's a logo. We think he likes to imagine that he has his own line of sewing tools sold at Jo-Ann's Fabrics.

AfterElton interview with the gay boys.

Robert and Kayne open up about Tim Gunn, being a gay role model, turning in Keith Michael, which contestant is the craziest, and a lot more
here.

The "O" stands for "Oh shit. The sun's up."

Jackie O, Robert? Really?

This?

And this?

That is pure "walk of shame" right there.

That's Jackie hailing a cab at 7 am, still drunk, her panties in her purse and last night's makeup reduced to raccoon eyes and a fat lip. She lost the belt to her jacket some time around 4 when she was spinning it over her head standing on top of her barstool. Luckily, the submarine crew she went home with had a little extra rope laying around, so they hooked her up.

Hmmm. We kinda like that Jackie!

The Hardly Boys

"Jeepers, Joe! What is the Secret of the Old Mill, anyway?"

"That you've got the taste of a love-starved hyena?"

"Rowr. Someone had their Bitcheeos this morning."

Judging Robert Harshly.

"Robert, you were too conservative, from your color choices to your odd proportions. We felt that your outfit was a total bore."

This isn't happening! Happy thoughts! Happy thoughts! Happy thoughts!

"Sparkles and starshine, Robert! This outfit is gorgeous! As soon as we're done taping, I'm running backstage to rip it off your model so I can wear it home! You are so talented! Let's be best friends forever!"

OUTch!...Part Zwei.

"...he was so full of himself that it didn't matter if anyone didn't like him. Because he liked himself enough for all of us."

Robert Best tells us who got on his nerves. What a shocker!! Read more here.
