Hello, gorgeous. Let's pretend last summer never happened and promise never to leave each other again.

We were right, weren't we? It all felt more energized and fun. People may say they watch for the fashion or the technical skill alone, but personality is the biggest component in any reality TV competition and if you don't have the right combination of personality and skill in the cast, you've pretty much lost the battle of holding on to the audience's attention (see: Season 6). Thankfully, this doesn't appear to be a problem with this cast.

Just seeing a pregnant Heidi and a Tim (prissily holding his Champagne flute with two hands, the way he always does) raising their glasses on the rooftop of the Atlas felt like old times, didn't it?

Sure, it was another "make a pretty dress" challenge but we thought the staging of it was cute, what with the Central Park setting and the mini-PR set with Tim standing on it. Here's hoping they'll have more creative challenges ahead of them. That preview on the farm looked promising.

And the new sketchpads are very cool, we have to say. In fact, the prize package is pretty sweet this year. Along with the editorial in Marie Claire, the opportunity to sell their line on Bluefly.com, and a 100 grand, they also get a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel to create, design and run their business. Raising the prize level raises the stakes among the competitors and that can only be good for the show.

Enh. She was inoffensive. We had no problem with her and she brought a different point of view to the table.

So, Congrats, Emilio! It was fun reading the comments this past week after having seen the screener because it seems like no one managed to predict the outcome of this episode. In fact, we think several of the designers offered pleasant surprises while other designers weren't as strong as some may have thought.

We had doubts all the way through the episode every time they showed him working, because our initial reaction to the fabric choices was not positive, and when it looked like no more than scraps pinned to a dress form, it wasn't easy envisioning the fun, modern, well-designed and made dress he ultimately produced.

More than just a party dress; it's more like a party in dress form.

We really love what he managed to do by appliqueing the fabric that way. We also loved that having The Duchess back on her throne meant there was someone there to appreciate the amount of work that went into it.

Love the strappage.


We also like the silhouette, and the length, and the fit, and pretty much everything there is to like. Just a perfect little dress.

And admit it, you didn't see it coming, did you? It'll be interesting to see what he does going forward.

Especially if it gives us more Mentos-style fist pumps. We've always said, "You know what Project Runway needs more of? Mentos-style fist pumps."
