This is it!

Sharpen your claws, kittens! It's time to dissect the auf'ing heard 'round the world!

Okay, let's start off by pretending that this was a perfectly executed garment (Haha! I know, right?). We'd still consider it an ugly design - and one that isn't really appropriate for Kara. Unless one defines "makeover" as "force someone in to clothes they'd never wear because they look horrible in them." The colors are drab, depressing, and they do nothing for Kara.

Jumpsuits only ever look good on one very tiny, very young, very skinny segment of the population, which is why you don't tend to see a lot of people wearing them. To the rest of the population, they're hugely unflattering.

Kara's got a great body, but even she couldn't pull this off (or put it on, for that matter).

No kittens, not even the design could save this from being a disaster. The poor execution only sealed the deal as far as we were concerned. That puckering and pulling around her torso made her look like she was about to give birth to a baby alien.

But this, THIS should have been grounds for auf'ing. Nina made quite a stink about Zulema's poor execution, going so far as to auf her over it, but nothing Shatangi sent down the runway was as bad as this. We don't generally like to throw around accusations, but this was, to us, a clear example of the judges having an agenda and voting accordingly. Santino's loudmouth rebel act really got them moist in their seats and they wanted to make sure he got his shot at Bryant Park. Yeah, Freddie Lieba liked it, but there were three other judges well aware of Santino's previous entries and behavior. At any other point in the competition and with any other designer, they would have found a way to send him home.

This isn't an anti-Santino rant. For the most part, we think he's entertaining as hell and kind of talented. This is an anti-judge rant. We don't subscribe to the notion that the producers run in and tell them how to vote, but the judges DO have an agenda and WILL overlook their own established criteria in order to keep the designers they like. This is just the clearest, most obvious example of that.

Hard Women and Soft Men

It would be really politically incorrect for us to make Asian hooker jokes, wouldn't it?

But kittens...

CAN YOU BLAME US?!

Yow. EVERYTHING was wrong on this. The color is too hard, the leather is too heavy and the skirt looks poorly executed.

And there doesn't appear to have been a moment's reflection on the fact that Chloe's a very short girl with a big chest. Those poor girls are pushed up and strapped in to within an inch of their lives. This is what it it looks like when breasts cry.

And wow, is this look wrong for Chloe. Look at the cute funky girl with the curves on the right. They look like before and after pictures on a makeover show where they take a hardened airport lounge hostess and teach her that yes, dreams really can come true as they give her a better haircut and take her shopping in a mall for clothes that don't "age" her.

Kara? We'll be standing over here waiting for your men's line to launch.

Seriously, that shit is HOT. She's got a naturally funky approach to design that translates really well into stylish and wearable men's wear.

Okay, maybe the pants aren't for everyone (they're certainly not for us), but they look great on Santino. The whole outfit looks great on him. Much like so many have with Sears, we've come to see, as Nina put it, "The softer side of Santino," which admittedly is probably going too far. He's not a kitten, for god's sake.

It's the shirt that we covet. It fits him perfectly and it's tailored in such a way as to give him broader shoulders and bigger arms and who don't want that? All in all, a great job (and we don't believe Santino had anything to do with it) and once again, what could have been a sure win for Kara was outclassed by someone else putting a truly superior garment out.

First, a little personal story about this episode. The night it aired, Lorenzo stomped off and vowed never to watch the show again. We were BOTH pissed off at what seemed to us a blatantly unfair auf'ing. We harrumphed our way through the rest of the season, but when season 3 rolled around we were still pissed and only watched the first episode out of morbid curiosity, deciding before it started that the show was "so over." Well, thank god for Laura Bennett or we'd never have started blogging and the world would not have known the fabulosity that is us.

Anyway.

Poor Nick. He'd taken such a beating at this point; from the judges, from losing his model, and from (according to internet rumors) the show pulling the rug out from under him in the inspiration challenge and forcing him to scrap his original design, giving him only a couple of hours to make a new dress. We'd always thought that he'd just crumbled under a level of pressure that he couldn't handle but if that's true, then he was just a victim of reality show politics.

Which isn't to say this design was worthless. Remaking Danny V. into a Eurotrash/Thin White Duke character actually has a lot going for it as a concept. It's a look Danny can pull off easily.

Unfortunately, we're not so sure it's a look Nick can pull off easily. That's pretty far outside his comfort zone, aesthetically speaking. He'd have been better off designing him club clothes. Worst of all was the fabric choice. That dainty color and the weight of the fabric gave him that oh-so-NOT-what-they-going-for stylish lesbian look. A stylish lesbian with a bad tailor. That is one puckery bitch.

No closure on the jacket, no pockets and no belt. Damn, Nick. Just give him a purse and a tube of lipstick and send him on his way.

Still, as bad as this was, it still wasn't deserving of an auf'ing considering what it was up against - which we will get to later, so save your angry comments for that post, bitches.

Congratulations Chloe!

Quickie recap: The remaining designers must design a "make over" looks for each other. You can read Tim's Take here and listen to his podcast here.

You work that shit, girl!

Honestly? There's not much to say here. She totally deserved the win.

It's a testament to her skills that she had never done menswear before and yet she pulled it off perfectly. It's classic, it's stylish and it's tailored to perfection.

And we thought using the pink was brilliant. It's not for everyone (not even us) but come on, it's perfect for Nick, even if he did think he looked like a flight attendant.

Of course, Nick was off-base about a lot of things this week, but that's a story for another day.
