Shelley O Watch: Days 4, 5, and 6

Ladies, we've got some ground to cover, so let's get cracking.

She looks good. Not great, but good. She favors black a lot, which is understandable, a lot of women do. But someone needs to tell her that just because black is flattering doesn't mean it's the best option for her. We've said it before: rich colors, Shelley. You were born to wear them. Also not loving the full skirt on her, but this one's not as bad as that Jason Wu dress she wore the other day, possibly because it looks like she's wearing a slightly higher heel.

Later, she paired it with a cardigan and ...surprise! We don't hate it:

That cropped version suits her. If she insists on wearing them, she should go with this cut more often.

She looks good in slacks because she's got such long legs and the jacket (again, by Azzedine Alaïa) works in theory. What we mean by that is the cut and silhouette should work for her, but in this case it's looking very boxy and a little overstuffed.

She appears to be wearing some sort of blouse, plus a scarf, plus a belt under there. She'd have been better off with a blouse or camisole alone.

For the most part, these looks worked for her, with only some minor missteps in the details. Then...THIS happened:

What? How? WHO DID THIS TO YOU, SHELLEY? Who let you leave the hotel room looking like that? This may actually be one of the worst outfits we've seen her in. Sleek, classic and tailored is the only way to go with her. Big flouncy details like that awful bow are incredibly wrong. So wrong, that we don't know how anyone could look at themselves in the mirror wearing something like that and not see it. Plus, that belt is so ridiculously high that all it manages to accomplish is to make her look like she has figure flaws she doesn't have.

In other Shelley O news, she's managed to piss of some mighty entitled designers. In an article for WWD, Oscar (the Grouch) de la Renta opened his big mouth and inserted his foot:

"American fashion right now is struggling. I think I understand what [Obama and her advisers] are doing, but I don't think that is the right message at this particular point....I don't object to the fact that Mrs. Obama is wearing J. Crew to whatever because the diversity of America is what makes this country great. But there are a lot of great designers out there. I think it's wrong to go in one direction only."

Oh, shut up, Oscar. Other designers were more diplomatic:

Tommy Hilfiger: "I’m happy that she’s wearing young designers and not only wearing [American] couture, which puts her more in touch with real people."

Michael Kors: "She’s the first First Lady who’s ever worn sportswear. If you think about it, she’s worn everybody from Azzedine Alaïa to Michael Kors to Isabel Toledo or Jason Wu to J. Crew to Donna Ricco."

Carolina Herrera: "I think it’s all right that she chooses young designers, because it’s American fashion that’s going around [the world]. And J. Crew is a huge company, no? It speaks very well of her that she wants to include everyone."

Donna Karan: "I hope and believe that this is just a moment. And I hope to be able to dress her, and not only dress her but address her, sit down -- I'm interested in her totality as a woman."

Donna honey, what the HELL does that even mean?
