Project Runway: All-Star Sneak Peek

They don't offer much in the way of spoilers, but for the PR-starved, they're certainly fun to look at.

You can see more pictures of the Project Runway All-Star Challenge here. Let the speculation begin!

Top Ten PR Looks of All Time: 7, 6, and 5

Let's get crackin', bitches!

Number 7

Season 3: Episode 5 - "Iconic Statement"
Designed by Mychael Knight
Model: Nazri Segaro

Come on, could there be any doubt? This was the look that finally got the S3 judges to sit up and take notice of Mychael - and rightfully so. A perfect storm of designer, model and muse resulted in this flawless hot pink hot shorts number inspired by Pam Grier. A dead-on sexy look coupled with some feminine touches and the restraint to let the color and the silhouette do most of the work.

Number 6

Season 3: Episode 6 - "Waste Not, Want Not"
Designed by Laura Bennett
Model: Camilla Barungi

Again, could there be any doubt? Easily the most memorable outfit from Laura's competition pile. Everyone mentions this dress when they mention Laura. It wasn't just that she made a dress out of peanut sacks that looked like it could have been hanging on the racks at a high-end store, nor was it the witty "For Nuts Only" left on the skirt. No, what made it stand out is that it's simply a chic, stylish design that works no matter what material was used. This is a dress that women see and want to wear.

Number 5

Season 1: Episode 8 - "Postal Uniform Challenge"
Designed by Kara Saun
Model: Jenny Toth

It's been a long time since we sang the praises of Kara Saun, but this outfit still stands out foremost in our minds among her competition work. Why? Put it this way: She designed this almost 5 years ago as a postal uniform for a female client and yet it's so perfect and so stylish, that we, two non-females who don't work for the Post Office, would love to have this outfit even today. That's a designer with a broad appeal and a long-term point of view.

A-List Awards - The Fashion Show

Well.

That was kind of a bust, wasn't it? Not that it was completely without entertainment value. Certainly, Kathy Griffin could keep us entertained by reading her insurance policy. And Lorenzo says that the live version was a hell of a lot more entertaining than the broadcast one. For one, Kathy came out and started off by reading a list of the words that Bravo wouldn't let her say and she did it in her inimitable Griffin style. Also, the wardrobe malfunction bit she did with Lance Bass was not ready for prime time but it sure as hell was funny. What you didn't see were her gigantic rubber boobs and his gigantic rubber penis. Since the whole joke hinged on that, it came across pretty flat when they blurred the offending body parts out.

Still, how much fun was it to see an All-Star Project Runway challenge?

It was so weird to see Laura and Mychael back in the work room alongside Nick and Sweet P and Chris and even (god help us) Daniel Franco. Of course we were thrilled because it gave us .... MORE DRESSES TO RIP! YAY!

When there were rumors floating around a couple of months ago that there would be an All-Star PR season, we rolled our eyes and declared the idea lame.

But after last night, we've definitely warmed up to the idea. Come on, who wouldn't want to see Laura's maribou feathers go toe to toe with Chris's human hair skirt? Or Sweet P vs. Alison? Nick v. Christian? Ah well. It's probably for the best.

The dresses from last night are all being auctioned off for relief efforts in Myanmar. How cool is that? You can own a Laura Bennett original AND help out your fellow man.

As for the dresses themselves, well...

Let's just say there were varying levels of fabulosity. You want more? Then continue to Page 2.

Nina Chica!

One thing upon which we all can agree, this stupid blog just doesn't have enough Nina.

In the latest issue of Elle Magazine (sorry darlings, the article's not online), La Fabulista offers her thoughts on the success of Project Runway and reveals some of her favorite looks and designers from seasons past. Here are some snippets you can all rip to shreds discuss calmly.

"Looking back on season one, I am amazed at how the show - from the contestants who have participated to the roster of designers who are currently competing - has evolved and impacted the fashion industry and the way it has inspired young talent."

"Getting to know the contestants from day one, seeing how they evolve and muster the perseverance to make it to New York Fashion Week to realize their dreams, is the most rewarding thing about being involved in the show."

"Some of my favorites didn't actually win."

Austin Scarlett and his cornhusk dress:

"His personal style and features remind me of a young Yves Saint Laurent."

"Austin really stood out among the other designers because he had such a clear design aesthetic."

Mychael Knight and his coffee filter dress:

"Michael had a better understanding of the challenges presented than anyone else."

"No matter how outrageous the challenge, like designing a dress out of supermarket finds, he approached each one with a sense of practicality and was able to articulate his vision eloquently."

Daniel Vosovic and his "garden party" dress (are we sensing a theme here?):

"When I first met Daniel Vosovic in season two, he had the presence of a designer."

"He was handsome, talented and bright beyond his 24 years - the total package."

"He had a clean style that developed throughout the competition."

Laura Bennett and her garbage dress (clearly, Nina hates fabric):

"Laura Bennett never ceased to impress me. Like Austin, Laura had a very distinct point of view and, in a way, was her own muse."

"Always chic, sophisticated, and collected in the most stressful situations."

"Laura was consistently able to create a signature look."

Santino Rice and his Nicky Hilton dress:

*chirping crickets*

We looked and we looked and we could find not one word about Santino anywhere in the article. The dress appears under her favorites, but she didn't say anything about him. She still fears for her life, poor thing.

She also offered this little observation:

"As Project Runway has evolved, so have its contestants. What started out as a platform for budding talents to gain recognition has evolved into a show that attracts established designers who already run successful businesses, have worked for legendary designers, or have done costumes for television and movies. The new contestants are testaments to the very awareness that Project Runway has provoked."

She talks about that like it's a good thing.

So much for our vacation.

Entertainment Weekly has named Project Runway one of its Top Entertainers of 2006. Everyone looks gorgeous in the photos even if we question some of the styling choices.

What you probably didn't know is that a couple days before the photo shoot, Laura called us and said "I need my gay posse there!" Just guess what we said.

Anyway, fate, torrential rain and an overturned tractor trailer on the Jersey Turnpike prevented us from getting to the shoot on time. We did however arrive in time to get one rain-drenched photo.

After that, we went back to Laura's for a while and then on to Malan's party. We do it all for you, darlings.

By the way, Laura made her own dress and if we recall correctly, Uli is wearing Vera Wang.

Edited to add:

Watch the Access Hollywood video about the EW photo shoot here.

Also, don't miss Bravo's exclusive behind-the-scenes video at the EW shoot. It's a great video!

Ripping the Collections: Michael, Part Zwei

This collection is getting shinier with each outfit. Ignoring the color and fabric choice, which is of course nigh-impossible, we still don't like this one. The proportions seem off; belt too thick, waist too high, pockets in weird places. Just not working for us on any level.

We'll say one thing, that is one striking model. They had to Zamboni the runway to clean up all the attitude she splashed around.

Whither art thou, Pam Grier? There can be no better example of the difference in Mychael's work when he has guidance, because this is nothing more than a cheap knockoff of a much finer piece he did on a much lower budget.

Good god.

We don't even know what to say about this one. Tacky, too-tight in the wrong places (hello pelvis!) and just bad, bad bad.

This isn't bad. Like every other piece in the collection, there's too much going on but we like the proportions, the belt's not bad and the styling works. It's still hooker, mind you, but it's toned-down hooker.

This is at least less offensive than the other bathing suit, but if you've got something you want the model to take off on the runway, don't give her a big honkin' bag to carry at the same time. She looks like she's fishing for her room key.

Did Kayne help him out on this collection or something? Take away a couple of elements and it's a great dress, but it's hard to see under the distracting print and the beading and the excessive shininess. And we hate to say it, but she looks like she bought that bag off the back of a truck. Maybe that's why Clarissa looks so pissed off.

While it's true that Mychael wisely offered a range of looks and that's to be commended, unfortunately his looks ranged from "hooker by the pool," to "hooker out for drinks," to "hooker doing her shopping."

There's nothing wrong with sexy or even hootchie as the focus of a collection. Like everything else in fashion, it works if it's done well and there's real thought and expression behind it. We have no doubt that Michael really thought about it, but we think he's got some growing to do before we really see what he's about. This was too young, too raw, and just not sophisticated enough. Like all four of the finalists, he's a major talent with a future ahead of him but not everyone can get it right on the first try.
