Oscars 2009 - Part 2

Start here, darlings.

Meryl Streep wearing Alberta Ferretti, Fred Leighton jewels and a Ferragamo clutch.

Oh Mary Louise. On the one hand, we think this is the best you've looked on the red carpet in ages; on the other hand, we're distressed that you're still dressing as if you're ten years older and 30 pounds heavier than you are. It's a lovely muted color and it drapes beautifully. She looks pretty with her shoulders exposed but the dress as a whole isn't really helping her shape all that much and the "Alice on the Brady Bunch" hair is a big NO. Meryl! You're still beautiful! Stop rushing headlong into "Grande Dame" territory! There'll be plenty of time for that later.

Nicole Kidman in L'Wren Scott Spring 2009

It's a very pretty dress but we're so tired of seeing her look so washed out.

Actually, we're just tired of seeing her, period.

Queen Latifah in Georges Chakra

Honey, you've done a better job of dressing yourself in the past, so we're not sure what went wrong here. QL always seemed to know how to show off her curves to maximum effect but this dress is showing off all the wrong curves. It's a beautiful color but it's just not flattering.

Reese Whiterspoon in Rodarte Spring 2009 [Modified]

Big props for wearing something so unusual. The straps are interesting and the skirt is gorgeous. Unfortunately, the bodice is too distracting. Still, it was an interesting choice.

Taraji P. Henson wearing Roberto Cavalli, accessorized with Jimmy Choo heels and a red Mary Norton bag.

She looks FLAWLESS. That dress is beautiful and it fits her perfectly. Normally we'd bitch about the washed out color but it looks great against her skin and the layering gives a nice soft textured effect.

Vanessa Hudgens in Marchesa Spring 2009 and Cathy Waterman earrings (Custom-altered for her)

Another one we go back and forth on. We can never really get behind the mermaid silhouette, but we have to admit the top of the dress looks fantastic on her. The flowers on the bodice make the look.

Viola Davis in Reem Acra Fall 2009

The fit on this dress is PERFECT. Kittens, that dress isn't just "hugging her curves," it is MAKING LOVE to them. She looks fabulous. On the other hand, that's a lot of boob and a lot of shiny for a nominee. She might have been better served by toning it down a notch. On the other, other hand, attitude goes a long way and she looks so luminous and so happy that almost anything would have looked amazing on her.
