Ripping the Collections: Jerell, Part 1

Say what you will about the sometimes bullshitty judging on this show - god knows we have - but there was a clear demarcation between the decoys and the finalists and it seemed that practically everyone in the tent knew who the decoys were by the lower quality of their presentations. Harsh, but in our opinion, very accurate. We like Jerell and we thought his auf'ing sucked but looking at this collection, we think the judges made the right choice. It's not that he's untalented, it's just that he has a ways to go in terms of maturing and refining his look before he can become a successful designer.

Let's start the show.

Not an awful look. Compared to the rest of his collection it's downright understated. There is way too much bling and trim for one look and we don't like the colors, but the "flap" is kind of interesting from a structural point of view.

Now THIS is an awful look. For one, it's sloppy and disheveled-looking. For another, there are once again way too many elements to this look. The string and the gold trim and high collar and the fraying and the loose skirt and the bow all combine to make a hot mess. That bow irritates the hell out of us because it looks like it was just tied on at the last second.

It's getting harder to be polite, kittens. Once again we have a sloppy bow and just LOOK at all the trim on the cuff of that sleeve. It's like Prince and Elvis got together and made a design baby. And the skirt? With the sheer fabric? And everything looks stretched out of shape? We fell out. That jacket - with some MAJOR editing - could be cute. The dress is a goner. We can't save her.

Believe it or not, there are parts of this we like. Take away the netting and the fringe and do something about that horrible neckline and maybe shorten the hem on the top and this could be a hot look.

Well, at least it's fitted. This concludes the nice things we can say about this look. Look at all the elements in that bodice alone! Awful. We can't even offer suggestions like "Oh, if you just took this in here and maybe got rid of this ..." No. This ship is going down and nothing can save it.
