Happy New Year, Kittens!

Pop your corks, darlings!

Y'know, as we take a moment to reflect, we have to say, we're truly lucky for what this blog has brought us. Not so much fame and fortune (because it hasn't, although we're very open to the prospect of the latter), but the people we've met and the places we've been invited and the chance to interact with all kinds of interesting and opinionated minions the world over.

Nothing could illustrate that better than the following video, painstakingly created by best gal Laura Bennett and her brood of puppies as they all spent the holidays up at her country house. Even though we're truly touched by the effort, the cynical, gay part of ourselves (okay, so it's more of a "whole" than a "part") can't help thinking it was merely a ploy on her part to keep her kids busy so she could fix herself one Christmas cocktail after another.

Could you just die? How fucking cute is that? Darlings, it's like our very own Rankin Bass Christmas special! Think of the plush toy possibilities! T Lo dolls! Pull the string and they criticize your outfits!

Happy New Year, Dolls! We luvya!

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Christiane King

Drama queen on deck, y'all!

Christiane King
Age: 30
Hometown: Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire

Favorite designer(s)?
It used to be Emanuel Ungaro. Now I love Marchesa and Balenciaga.
What is a fashion must?
Any of my designs.
What is your design training?
Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design.
What's influenced your designs over the years?
My greatest inspiration has always been the woman's body.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
Silks, silks, silks! I use mostly wovens. I like to sculpt and drape fabrics around the body.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
I'm as much into prints as into solids. Right now I've been using more solids.
What are your favorite colors?
LOVE colors! Reds, purples, greens, blues. Bright and deep, not as much into pastels.
What fashion faux pas drives you crazy?
To wear something that does not represent you as a person. Be yourself when dressing!
Favorite designer from past seasons of Project Runway?
Rami Kashou.
Project Runway challenge you wish they'd bring back for your season?
Grocery store challenge. I think you can be so creative with it.

We love anyone who gives her age as "29 years of fabulous" (especially if she's 30) and we raise our glasses to anyone who will openly admit that they plan to bring drama to the proceedings. But enough psychoanalysis. What about the clothes?

Well, the girl's got skills, no doubt. And she loves color, which is always welcome. We were able to tell who her favorite designer was just by looking at her portfolio. It's got a very Marchesa vibe to it. And of course Uncle Nick loved her, she does one goddess gown after another. However, we can just hear Nina and The Duchess now: It's all too overworked. She needs to pick one design element per dress and just use that one instead of throwing the kitchen sink at a dress form. We like some of the pieces very much but some of them are a bit on the tacky side.

LML: Runway Rundown

Kittens, we are so far behind on our dress-ripping! Let's get to it.

Marilyn & Coco

Don't you hate those passive-aggressive "thanks in advance" style of notes? The ones that make you go, "Don't thank me, bitch. I didn't agree to anything?"

Or is that just us?

It's...alright, we guess.

And that's why we get paid the big bucks for our incisive fashion commentary!

We hate to keep harping on this, but literally every look they send down that runway looks like something Wilhelmina would wear on Ugly Betty. All that big, drapey, off-the-shoulder stuff. Certainly, there are worse aesthetics to choose, but the clothes all look over-the-top in that soap opera way.

Louanna & Jim

Was it us or did she have a major bug up her ass the whole episode?

Of course, that could have been due to the fact that she screwed up on the design brief and she knew it. Which is fine, people make mistakes, but why get all huffy and defensive about it on camera?

It's not a bad little outfit either.

We, of course, love the belt.

And the zipper running down the skirt.

But man that ren-faire-esque peasant blouse was a bad idea. She looks like she should be serving tankards of ale in that thing and shouting "HUZZAH!" at weird times.

She's got decent (if not great) taste and a highly capable designer working with her, which is what got her through the challenge even though she didn't manage to fulfill it by making an evening look. It's not that we LOVE this look so much; it's just that it's inoffensive and styled well, which is no surprise because she's a stylist. We have to say, though: the most interesting part of the look was the boots.

Eric & Galina

Oh god, when are the Tacky Twins going home?

We're starting to fear that they may NEVER get sent home, because if something like this passes the judges' collective muster, what could they possibly do to get kicked off?

What can we say? It's tacky and hideous and the styling is pure 1996, which is apparently what year it is inside their heads.

It's like a parade of hookers outside the VMAs.

And let's face it: he can't defend his work because IT'S NOT HIS WORK. There has not been one moment where he has offered any opinion to his designer other than agreement with her ideas.

Project Runway Season 7: Meet Janeane Marie Ceccanti

It's Leanne 2.0, ladies!

Janeane Marie Ceccanti
Age: 28
Hometown: Willows, CA

Favorite designer(s)?
Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy.
Current occupation?
Designer and owner, Janeane Marie.
What is a fashion must?
Vision.
What is your design training?
BFA in apparel design from the Art Institute of Portland.
What's influenced your designs over the years?
Literature and history, especially fashion history, music, art and lately, earth science and space.
What fashion faux pas drives you crazy?
Oversized pants. Thematic dressing. Silliness.
What's your favorite material or fabric to work with?
Wool! Silk! Linen! Fine cottons! I love all natural fibers and work exclusively with them.
Do you prefer patterns or solids?
Solids! I've been wanting to use prints more and more, though.
What are your favorite colors?
Black. I have a tumultuous relationship with color.
Favorite designer from past seasons of Project Runway?
Leanne Marshall from Season 5. It's the only season I've seen!

She seems sweet. The Leanne comparison probably isn't fair but hey, she's the one that brought it up. Like Leanne, she makes pretty, girly clothing, heavy on the construction and detailing. We like her portfolio and hope she soon discovers the magic of prints.
