Virgins v. Vixens

We're back, and we've got a toughie for you!

But first, we would just like to say that we hate you all for making us type the following words...

JULIE ANDREWS IS DEAD.

How COULD you, ladies? HOW COULD YOU?

Okay, fine. Audrey Hepburn is kind of a tough act to go up against, we'll grant you. And enough of you voted for Julie that we almost entertained thoughts that she might survive, but alas, no. Julie shuffled off to that great big nunnery in the sky and Audrey spits into her palms and adjusts her tiara to take on the next competitor.

And for the first time in a long time, it's an actual Virgin vs. a Vixen, as ...

MISS AUDREY HEPBURN

goes up against the former Sofia Villani Scicolone,

MISS SOPHIA LOREN.

And don't give us that "Oh, Audrey went through the war!" sob story. Zip it. They BOTH did.

TFS: The Rest

Alright, let's get this thing wrapped up.

It's Dior-ish. It would have been a pretty great look if it had been executed better.

And maybe if she had come up with a different pair of pants. Those look cheap and they fit terribly.

But the jacket is pretty fab, from a design point of view.

We liked the collar...

...and the multiple peplums. It's just a shame it all looks so sloppy and half-assed.

Chicken Diva did such a good job with his Madame Grès-inspired dress that we half suspect producer input.

He said he had no idea who she was and yet he produced a look that he at least had a pretty good chance of defending if he had to.

She was known for intricately draped evening gowns and well, that's what this is. Either he was exaggerating when he said he'd never heard of her or someone took him aside and gave him the skinny. Maybe it was one of his fellow designers, but whatever the case, Chicken pulled it out.

We love the colors on this.

And the mixing of a classic toga with some modern twists.

It's ultimately a little dull, so we're not suggesting he should have won it or anything, but he deserves credit for putting out such a good try.

We honestly thought James Paul should have won it for that blouse alone.

We'll say this right off: both the skirt and the styling on this look are awful.

Maybe that's why this didn't get higher points from the crowd because that blouse is absolutely gorgeous.

Sometimes James Paul gets a little too wrapped up in his concepts for his own good but then he'll turn around and whip out a classic blouse with some beautiful and interesting construction to it and you can see that when he gets it figured out, he can do some amazing stuff.

Dirk Bikkembergs Menswear Spring 2010 Collection

HOT.

Fashion and Runway breathlessly recounts the details:

"It all happened in October last year, on one of Dirk’s trips around the world. Sydney. Dirk was discovering the city when he was struck by a fiery red painting in the display window of an art gallery. The painting showed a sporty body in motion, combined with graphically composed “calligraphic numbers”. Eye in eye with the piece of art that would later on define the theme of his Spring/Summer 2010 collection, Dirk entered the gallery and got himself an appointment with the young Sydney-born artist himself.

Through his painting, Scott Elk managed to stir a side of Dirk that is difficult to move. It was the obvious presence of the sport-related theme and dynamics that did the trick. Dirk certainly did not have to count to eleven before realizing what was happening to him. Dirk joined forces with Scott, made a series of pictures of Andrea Vasa in motion back in Milan and asked Scott to create a new series of paintings with those. The result is what you see on display along the catwalk: 12 paintings of massive impact, announcing the core energy of the Dirk Bikkembergs Sport Couture Spring/Summer 2010 collection. It is dominated by one colour: fiery red."

We don't know about all that, but what we do know is this: these clothes are HOT with a capital H and that stands for HOT. They're also pretty much restricted to the young and the fit. Even though he does manage to slip in a couple of less-than-young models, the tight, bright sportiness of it all calls for youth to pull off most of these looks. Visible abs are probably a good idea too. Did we mention that the models are HOT? Because they are. HOT, that is. Mercy.
