Congratulations!

Last night, a cry of joy went up in the land.

Lorenzo, because he is so very Lorenzo, screamed out loud when her win was announced and Tom said, "They must be going ballistic in T LOunge right now." And of course, you all were.

Lorenzo said he hates challenges like this and Tom said "Really? I love these so much more than watching them pick out fabrics in Mood." By the end of the episode, Lorenzo had to admit it was a pretty good challenge. Not just because our girl won, but because for the most part, the designs were pretty good (or at least interesting). The show always works better when things are made difficult for the designers. Frankly, we didn't know how any designer could possibly make that hideous collection of synthetic dresses look like anything chic.

She got an awful lot of screentime last night and when she called her family, we looked at each other and said, "She's getting an edit." We were a bit scared it was the loser edit but couldn't see how it was possible since she seemed on track right from the get-go.

So, congrats, girl! This was long overdue.

And well-deserved. Could anyone possibly look at that and figure out that it was made from an old wedding dress?

We loved the way she arranged the strips of material and we loved the frayed edges.

We also think the back works very well and we especially like the neckline.

This works on two levels: one, because no matter its origin, it's a chic, edgy look that stands on its own, and two, because there was a nice little story told by the dress of someone who puts the past behind her and opens herself up to something new and a little risky.

We have two slight criticisms (come on, it wouldn't be us if we didn't). The fit wasn't exactly spectacular. Now, that could have been due to the client's own body, because even though it's a little loose in the middle, it nonetheless flatters her. It's possible that a tighter fit wouldn't have worked with her. That's a minor complaint, though. What really bothers us is the terrible styling.

Look, she won it, didn't she? Clearly the styling didn't hurt her too much and it did drive the point home that this dress was a little edgy. But, the boots and the hair (especially the hair) are so not the best way to show off this dress.

It forced the judges to say, "It's edgy but I can see how it would work as a chic dress," when they should have been saying the exact opposite. Still, like we said, it didn't hurt her, even if Heidi seemed pissed that she won it. "Good job. THIS TIME." What the fuck was THAT, Heidi?
