Strong Showings

These three ladies surprised us.

Gordana:
"If you give me a sheep, I can make you a sweater."

Okay, show of hands. Who else suddenly became huge fans of hers with that sound bite?

Model: Tara Egan

We really, really like this dress. It's highly unusual but still pretty and wearable.

Okay, maybe you'd have to keep your arms out at all times to make it work, but it's still really eye-catching and different. We'll take this kind of "different" over Ari's brand any day of the week.

We're really curious how she managed that effect around the top and we're wondering what other tricks she has up her sleeve. Also, we love the fabric. It could have been a contender for the judges' attention if she'd gone with a gown length on this. Something to balance out that treatment at the top would have improved it greatly.

Irina:

Poor Irina. Such a great rack wasted on a viewership composed almost solely of straight women and gay men.

Model: Celine Chua

The bottom of this dress moved incredibly. She did a fantastic job on the skirt, which appears to have some interesting construction to it designed to make it move like that.

And the view from the back is gorgeous.

Despite our stated love of Laura Bennett's designs, we're not normally a fan of lace and we have to say, we're not a fan of the lace she used here. It was very doily-esque. We're also not fans of that sash, which comes off a little twee. And we think that some color would have really helped this look.

Shirin:

"My name is Shirin Askari. It means sweet in Farsi."

Oh, honey. Our names are Tom and Lorenzo and that means "bitches" in Gay.

We'll be honest. We assumed she was going to be a lightweight. Who knows? Maybe that'll yet turn out to be true.

Model: Ebony Jointer

But this wasn't the dress of a lightweight. In fact, this dress was adorable. We hated the capelet, though.

Especially since it covers up that really cute detail at the top.

There was also some puckering throughout the garment and it's another one that could have benefited from a color infusion.

But the back of it is really sassy and sexy. What's up with everyone making "walking away" dresses for this challenge? Sure, you see a lot of that on the red carpet, but we're a little surprised that the sexy back was so prominent this week.
